How to set up Multi-Window

Before you start

  • Use Google Chrome. Workspace relies on a multi-screen browser capability that only Chromium-based browsers support.
  • Allow pop-ups in your browser, and accept the in-app permission prompt.

How it works

Workspace splits a single exam across several browser windows so you can place images and report details in separate windows for easier viewing.

  • You can detach a view into its own window with the detach icon (two overlapping rectangles, the "open in second window" glyph) at the top of that view's panel. You can detach the Report, the Medical history, and an enlarged image.
  • The main exam window holds the images and visual checklist. It always stays as the main screen and is never detached.
  • You can arrange the detached windows across your monitors, then save the arrangement as your Workspace.
  • The saved layout is stored in your browser on that specific computer. It is local to the device and browser, so it does not follow you to a different computer or a different browser. Set up and save your Workspace on each device you use.
  • When you navigate back to the dashboard, all detached windows close automatically.

Step-by-step: Set up and save your Workspace

  1. Open an exam.
  2. Click the detach icon (two overlapping rectangles) to open the report in its own window. Do the same for any other view you want to detach (Report, or an enlarged image).
  3. Drag and arrange the detached windows across your screens (for example, the report on one monitor, the images on another).
  4. Open the hamburger menu (☰), at the top left, then click your username.
  5. Click Save workspace. It briefly shows "Saved!".

The next time you open an exam on this computer, Sonio automatically rebuilds your saved window layout.

💡Tip

The first time you enter an exam, Sonio shows a prompt titled "Enable multi-screen support in your browser" with an Ask for permission button. Accept it. If you decline (or choose Remind Me Later and never grant it), Workspace will not set up correctly and your layout will not stick.

⚠️ Your layout is saved per device, not per profile

Your saved layout lives in this browser on this device, not in your user profile. It does not travel with you to another computer or browser, so you set it up on each one. To clear the layout and return to a single window, open the hamburger menu, click your username, and click Clean up (this button appears once a workspace is saved). Closing the detached windows and saving again also works.

Common questions / troubleshooting

My saved layout did not apply, or it does not follow me to another computer. Why?

The layout is stored in your browser on a specific computer, not in your profile. If you switched computers or browsers, set up and save your Workspace again there. If it did not apply on the same computer, confirm you accepted the "Enable multi-screen support in your browser" permission prompt; without it, Workspace cannot rebuild the layout.

The report keeps opening in a separate window when I do not want it to. How do I stop that?

Open the hamburger menu, click your username, and use Clean up to reset to a single window.

How do I refresh a detached window?

Use your browser's refresh inside that window (Ctrl+R).
