🔄 How to move an entire exam to another patient
🔍 Common Scenarios
Data repair is most often needed when:
1. Patient not found on worklist
A new patient was created from the ultrasound machine instead of selecting from the worklist. DICOM is captured under the wrong patient ID.
2. Wrong patient selected
A patient with a similar name was accidentally selected.
3. New exam created by mistake
A new exam was created instead of using the scheduled exam from the worklist.
Step 1: Access the “Move entire exam to correct patient” option
- Navigate to the patient record that currently has the exam
- Locate the exam you want to move
- Click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to the exam
- Select "Move exam to another patient"

Step 2: Confirm imaging is complete
A confirmation dialog will appear to ensure that the exam is over and all DICOM have been transferred from the ultrasound machine before moving the exam.
Step 3: Select the target patient
In the patient selection screen, use the search field to find the correct patient:
- Search by patient name

Step 4: Completion
After successful completion:
✅ The exam will appear under the intended patient's record
✅ The exam status will be set to "Imaging completed"
✅ You'll be automatically redirected to the moved exam
✅ All DICOM are moved together

🚫 When You Cannot Move an Exam to another patient
Empty exam
🖼️ If the exam contains no images or clips, the action will be disabled.
You may still see “Move exam to another patient” in the menu, but it will not be clickable.
exams Linked to an EHR
🔗 If the exam came from an EHR integration, a message will appear when you click the button asking you to submit a ticket.
Exams scheduled through an EHR are tied to orders not managed by Sonio and therefore cannot be reassigned within Sonio.
Multi-Fetal exams or Fetus-Related Issues
👶 For complex fetal scenarios requiring Sonio support, a message will appear asking you to submit a ticket.
- Multi-fetal exams (twins, triplets, etc.)
- Exams with no associated fetus
- Intended patient has no current episode
- Intended patient's episode has no associated fetus
- Intended patient has a multi-fetal episode </aside>
Signed exams
✍️ A lock icon replaces the three-dot menu (⋮) for signed exams.
If you need to move a signed exam:
- Unsign the report first
- Then follow the standard move process
- Re-sign the report after confirming it's in the correct patient record </aside>
